All time favorite Imperial/1974-75 LeBaron????

I agree with you concerning the 70's. 74 - 75 Imperils and the 76-78 New Yorker. They were the only good looking big cars in the 70's.

Now as the all time favorite Imperial. I originally wanted a 58 Imperial as my dad had one when I was young, 30 years ago. He sold it and acquired my Grandfathers 57 Ford,.blah! I was devastated. I am 43 and acquired my first 1956 Black Imperial in 1987, I restored it, and it was hell,  I was unaware there were other Imperial Owners like me. So I had to restore it with very little help and everything I needed had to be made or purchased over a few years as the Hemming ads came out. With the Imperial Club and Ebay etc.. it would be a lot easier now.

Well 7 years later I sold it,  as I did not use it, the new owner called me a month later and blessed me as he loved the car.

About three years ago I ran across another Imperial a white cloud over desert rose 1956 Imperial. My wife and I love this car and would never part with it unless we had to.

I never did care for the 90's Imperial, but a few months ago I purchased a 1990 Imperial, it caught my eye. It is black with gold and chrome trim. I have people ask me about it, and it is my everyday driver!

Now as the favorite Imperial? There are so many variables as there are people. Remember I had a black 56 Imperial I restored. I did not like it. I purchased an original never restored white cloud over desert rose 56 Imperial and I love it. I never did car for the 90's Imperial but I bought a black 1990 Imperial and love it. Confusing isn't it?

The point is there are a lot of different designs of the Imperial through the years, size, 2 doors, 4 doors, rose, black, green, blue, white etc.. It is in the eyes of the beholder as to what they like.

Now car history gives the milestone status recognition to the 55-56 Imperial as Chrysler took the design lead then and turned the luxury car market on its ear. After 1960 they consider the Imperial an also ran, ouch! What about my 1990? What about the bug eyed 1961 to 1963? As someone said they were ugly. Now I have a 56 and 90 Imperial. Oh, I have got to go, looking over my ads for that 1961 Imperial I have been wanting for years.

Hello,

What do you think of the fact that I believe the
1974-75 Imperials and 76-78 where the best looking
cars of the 1970's

The styling combines Cadillac (the sled look) and
Lincoln (hideway lights and mark IV like grille)
elements and has a beautiful Duesenberg look at same
time, a kind of neoclassical style that was about to
become very popular in 1974....

I like other Imperials as well, like the fuselgae
look, but I am a seveties man and just like the
pillowed velour Imperials and New Yorkers.

I think no other car make has such a nice and
distinctive style as the Imperials, they're just so
''different''.

Thanks, Dirk/theNetherlands
