Questions
I have a 59 Imp. You have to start the car and put it in
neutral. Have someone depress the brake. The booster will compress out of the
way. Make sure the person inside does not release the brake until you get done
the next part. Unscrew the bolt on to of the master cylinder. I fabricated a
small squeeze bottle to hold brake fluid and I inject it under the master
cylinder cap, as to not have to take the cap completely off. Fill to the brim
and tighten the cap. Then the person can release the brake. I tried
compressing the booster and broke it once, had to find another. I hope this is
the same as a 61. I have been told that type F (Ford) tranny fluid is what to
use in a torqueflight tranny.

Subject: IML: 61 Brake Questions
Hello All,
I just got a call from a friend who has recently acquired
a 61 Imperial. He had a couple questions regarding the car that I
couldn't answer positively since I don't know much about the 61s. His first
question was about brakes. The car has been sitting along time and
doesn't have any. He said he can't figure out how to put in fluid. Is
the master cylinder under the brake booster on a 61? If so how does one fill
it? He also said that the transmission fluid is
yellow. Isn't that just the type that was used at that time? If
so there isn't any problem changing it over to Dexron is there?
Any help will be appreciated. Also this car may be
for sale soon. Seems my friend bought it for someone else who only
wanted the engine. Now this person doesn't have any money. I think
that may be a good thing. Its not a 56 but it would look good with my
62.
