My trailer is a 18' (16' flat bed with 2' dovetail)
open trailer. I've had one 50 Crown Limo, a 50 Custom Imperial, two 61's,
a 60, two 54's, and a 73. And some lesser cars. Never had a problem
clearing the fenders with the doors. Mine is a PJ brand but it looks
like all the rest. As long as your door bottom is 6" off the ground (it
will be unless your car is on flat tires or modified), you should have no
problems.
I agree it would take a HUGE enclosed
trailer.

Imperial
I assume you are considering an "open" trailer. An 18
ft. 84" wide enclosed trailer would be way to small for a '56 Imperial.
Even open I do not think an 84" wide trailer would work unless the wheels were
completely underneath the trailer. You do ot want to rub your lower door
panels or rocker moldings.
For enclosed trailers, I strongly recommend
the 102" width and an "escape door" on the driver's side to get out of
the car once you get it loaded. It functions as an extra garage as well
and we can all use more storage space. Go ahead and splurge for the
heavy duty axles, interior lights, and insulation and you will be glad in the
long run.
Yes, I drive my cars locally in good weather, but the
trailer is great when you have long distances to cover in a short period of
time and no time to detail the car once you arrive at your destination.
