Subject: spark plugs
Hello club!
I hate to beat the subject of reliable spark plugs to death, but need
to offer some observations. I long ago swore off Champions, although they
were my favorites during the early fifties when I was a flathead Ford
enthusiast.
I installed a new set of Autolites in my '55 Imp last Fall, and when I
started it up this Spring there was a noticeable miss.
Pulled the bad plug, which had no actual miles on it. Went back to my
parts car, a '56 with a broken block that hasn't turned in thirty years.
Pulled another badly gummed up plug, full of rust, and wire brushed it
clean. It worked perfectly. I have done this six times so far. These
are old Autolites. Obviously something has gone wrong with the quality of
these plugs in recent years. I haven't tried AC plugs, but suspect the same
thing is true about them. Is there ANY plug on the market that will work
after non-use for a season? I suspect the porcelain is of poor quality. I
only have two old plugs left!!
