How on earth can I humbly suggest that Bill Watson made an error? My world
is caving in! More likely is that Chrysler made the error or Bill's decode
list is wrong... My Galen Govier decode book doesn't even show the correct
size tires for these cars among the choices.
Nonetheless, virtually all (perhaps all except the odd special-order car)
'68 Imperials left the factory with 9.15x15 tires. Blackwalls were standard
on all but the LeBaron, which came standard with three-ribbon whitewalls in
the same size. (This holds true for '67 and '68, according to my
literature.)
The original window sticker for my '67 Crown shows, as the last option
listed, code 83: "9.15x15 Whitewall Tires-3 Ring." In 1967 this option cost
$54.05. Considering that the standard tires were the same size, that's quite
a chunk o' change just to add whitewalls!
Don't worry, Bill, and please don't stop doing what you do! You're still one
of my heroes...
