I would not do the baking soda thing ------- you might want to email martha stewart - don't any of you dare laugh !! and cruise her website - she often has a big write up one stains ---- nylon of that vintage can be pretty frail.... you also might want to see what vintage clothing people have to say - Since Clay you are here in Mpls I would contact Via's on hennipen about 26th I think - talk w/ the owner Via and see what she says - also contact Mpls institue of Art and talk to their textile people - If Iris is still head of that department talk w/ her - now they will sort of be uppity because they deal with tapstries from 1500 all the time and cloth from graves from 1 bc so.... you have to charm them a bit... IF we still do not have sno and salt on the roads - you might onsidere driving it for them to see...............or wait till spring -- Because there is foam( a sponge ) underneath that might even be deterated you don't want to soak any thing - vacum good but nothing else -------If the Textile Dept at MIA sort of takes u under there wing you might learn alot - I imagine you might be taking the seats apart replacing the foam underneth , hand washing the seatscovers and puting them back on same with the door panels -- you will probly have to take thenm apart. The heavy cardboard that they usee is very difficult to cut w/ an exacto knive - and you will probly have to replace it -- but here in the twincitis you can go to Mn center for the bookarts to use there board shears to cut down the board..........I have a door panel I have to redo - I was going to wait till spring ------- What coler is your 60?? have you seen the candy apple red one in town? ---------- >From: "clay-deb" <clay-deb@xxxxxxxxxxxx> >To: "IML" <mailing-list@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> >Subject: IML: water stains on 60 seats >Date: Sun, Jan 5, 2003, 1:52 PM > >Hello everyone. > My newly purchased 60 Custom has a very nice original nylon type material >on its seats(complete with neat Imperial crowns!). > There are though a couple of areas on the seats and door panels that look >to have been stained by water seepage . > The stains are a rusty brown sort of color. > Does anyone know of any product that might lighten,or remove the stains >without harming the fabric on the seats ?
