I know that a 426 Hemi was never offered as an option but it would be an
intriguing idea to add one to an Imperial that comes sans engine. Picture a
1957 or 58 Imperial with one installed in place of the 392. Adapt the
original accessories to it, paint the block silver, and find a way to stamp
"Imperial" into the valve covers, since the 392 ones likely won't fit. The
icing on the cake would be be have a pushbutton drive trasmission bolted to
the back of it. Remember the debate about putting a 440 in place of a 392
and how much faster the car would be? There would be no debate about how
much faster the car would be with an "Elephant" under the hood. The only
trouble would be fitting that engine between the inner fenders, lol!, the
392 was a tight squeeze. The 426 would likely work well in a 67' or 68'
though.
