This post was based on my memory of my last LA 318 rebuild in 1997. Now that I see Totallymopar's comment (sorry, I don't know your name), I'm now questioning my memory (that the cam drive gear is on the oil pump shaft) - I may have been remembering a more recent engine I rebuilt (a Packard 320 V8), in which case I'm wrong and he is right. In any case, I stand by my original thoughts - it's my bet that the oil pump isn't turning.
