If the running on is caused by combustion chamber carbon buildup (I don't
know how you could tell).
I have had good luck pouring a can of Seafoam down the carburetor ,and
letting the car sit overnight.
Seafoam does seem to be kind of a Midwestern product though, and isn't
available everywhere.
