Backfire causes

If fire is coming back up through the intake manifold, there is a cylinder
with an intake valve open when its spark plug fires. Possible causes are
(in order of expense to fix)

1. crossfire due to incorrect routing of the plug wires (separate #5 and #7
plug wires, and keep them away from each other!)
2. bad plug wires
3. Timing too advanced during acceleration
4. Intake valve sticking open
5. Valve timing off (how many miles on this puppy?

I could go on, but I think by this point you will have found it!
