Boosting a 6 volt battery with a 12 volt battery

Best thing to do is to convert the whole electrical system to 12 volt,
which is generally far simpler then some think,
basically involves changing bulbs, coil, petrolpump if electric ( I am afraid i know very little about any Imperial's other than my own...and dont know enough about that! so dont know what type of fuel pump you will have), condensor in the distributor,

Then buy  a box of tricks  which alters the output of your dymano from 6 volt to 12 volt, they cost about £50 and are available from Seven Workshop ( Austin Seven specialists) as if I have read your e-mails correctly I think you are UK based Ray.

You dont have to do anything to the starter Motor as a 6volt motor will happily accept 12 volts ..and turn the engine over far faster.. the only thing to make sure is that there is nothing else stopping the engine from firing as if you are putting 12 volts through a 6 volt starter motor it does get warmer quicker and I wouldnt churn an engine over continually if it doesnt fire up easily.

I shall be following this course of action with my  1929 Imperial L*80  assumming i ever get it finished, so far all the chassis is done, the engine is rebuilt as is the bodyframe with the panelling due to be done next,

Another car of mine is 12 volt but fitted with a 6 volt starter motor so i am not suggesting something i do not already do myself.
