Batteries for $23 - was:Need a bettery for '61

Regarding getting a replacement battery:

Here in SF there is a battery dealer (thats all that they
do) that services fleets, including the airport trucks. He
has to replace any fleet-contract battery that dies on the
spot, including ones where the lights were left on and the
battery is still good, but drained. He winds up with these
good but used batteries and has a huge rack of them.

He sells the used ones for $23 (last I knew) and offers a
year warranty. I have had 4 or 5 over the years and they
worked great. Know where your +/- terminals need to be and
ask for the biggest capacity that you can get...

You might want to look up battery dealers in your
metropolitan area to see if a similar operation exists
there.

Should you need a battery in the SF Bay Area, try:

Meehan Battery Co.
900 block of Airport Blvd., SSF
at the west side of 101 Oyster Point Overcrossing across
freeway from Levitz (2 miles south of Candlestick
ballpark).
Reputable people.

As far as keeping your battery fresh during winter storage,
you might look into a solar-powered trickle charger to set
in a window, but I don't have direct experience with them.
The cheapies are probably not worthwhile.
