checking in, my bird bath

I haven't posted in quite a while, so I thought I'd check in with my fellow
Imperialists. My '59 has been running beautifully lately, and today the clock
even started working again! This in combination with the cigarette lighter
puts two items up on my much newer Nissan 300ZX. Since I had the radiator
rodded out the temperature stays at an even 190 degrees, except when I got
caught in some very bad beach traffic a few weeks ago, where I was literally
crawling in gridlock traffic for about half an hour. The temperature climbed
to almost 230 degrees, but once I got moving again, came back down to 190. I
guess I don't have a very good parade car! I do have a question for the list,
since I plan on removing the center hub of the Flightsweep deck, and sanding
to remove any rust which is there, which I know there is, but I was wondering
what the best thing is to treat the metal to prevent rust build up in the
future, besides a good coat of paint. I was also wondering what other members
having this deck lid did to seal the area where the hub meets the lid to
curtail water invasion, since this area is like a bird bath when it rains.
Thanks, Bill '59 Crown
