D.I.Y Chrome Plating

I found out plastic has to be Electrostaticly put on, and no one I can find 
wants a small job for under $2000. They say something about setup. 
My friend that is a mechanic and owns his own shop had a piece of plastic 
replated (2"x4") and it was over $900.
