I have been told by more than one derbier that they cut the Imperial body
off of the frame and re body it with GM sheet metal to get around the ban.
They also use small block Chevy motors because they are less likely to
overhead.

I have a friend who derbies cars and I have said this on the list before.
He just bought a near complete 1957 Chrysler Windsor 2 door hardtop for a
derby car. It would take a lot to restore it, more than it's value as a
restored car.
He has promised to take care in removing anything he doesn't want for me.
I also sold a 1966 4 door Imperial to a guy that drove 13 hours to pick it
up. He assured me that he had two others and wanted this one to round out
his collection.
I later learned that he sold the 440 out of it and the body went elsewhere.
I expect it became a derby car in one form or another.
