Title: Re: IML: Wheel covers 66 Paint and refinish
Matt,
Check out the extensive detail on our website at <http://imperialclub.com/Repair/Wheels/covers.htm>. The black paint should be flat, but satin black looks quite nice and holds up a little better if you're willing to veer from the most correct restoration.
Your three matching covers sound like they're from a '68 (the only year with non-painted center wells). The '66 cover is unique in that it sits a fraction of an inch proud of the wheel (because it's surrounded by cooling slots built into the back of the cover). Also the '66 valve stem pokes through the ribbed area rather than the outer edge of the cover as on '67-69.
Again, the website link above explains this all in clear detail. Good luck!

I tried searching the archive and get a busy signal from the site when I try to go to a link so here I ask my question. My 66 came to me with non-painted centers and I lost one in transit. I got a correct replacement that has a black center that needs to be redone and while at it I want to do the other 3.
1. What is the best procedure for this? I have them all apart so now I need to paint.
2. Paint-black--should this be a gloss or what and what kind of paint would be best?
