Need help on 81-83 EFI

I'd add to Bob's excellent suggestions that you should also replace the two
gas filters that are mounted on the underbody near the passenger door -
these are close in size to a common size you can get at your friendly local
NAPA store. Since this car sat for years, there is a very good chance the
fuel filters are partly blocked, which could also cause your symptoms.

I doubt there is anything at all wrong with the main EFI system, and I urge
you to check all the ancillary sensors, connections, transducers and filters
before letting anyone fiddle with the EFI system. They usually don't fail
if they are left alone.

I assume you have already done it, but if not, you could treat the car to a
new set of plugs, rotor, cap and wires, and clean all the crud off the coil
while you're at it. Also, make sure the ground wire is on the ASDM,
although with an 83, it should already be present.
