Design Issues



Actually, the automatic headlight dimmers work very well at detecting the
red light of cars that are ahead of you, in my experience.   I assume they
have enhanced sensitivity toward the red end of the spectrum, as that is a
common characteristic of  photodiodes.

I the cars that I've owned with automatic headlight dimmers, they dip the
lights just about where a courteous driver would, which is to say about 1/2
to 1/4 mile behind on a dark country road, depending on the sensitivity
setting.  This is based on 5 different cars with this feature, not all of
them Imperials, but all using the same system as Imperial used, made by the
same folks (whose name we won't mention here).
