Exh-Man Removal/Splash Guards. (was: Ticking noise)

How about disconnecting the left side motor mount and jacking the engine
up a little to get clearance? I think I'd disconnect the crossover-pipe
first...as well as the fan shroud.

  I had to replace the oil-pump in the '73 Imp I had. Geeesh!..that wasn't
all that easy. I can't imagine replacing the exh manifold.

I once heard from an elderly mechanic that the exhaust manifolds warp and
crack because of people driving fast thru deep puddles..thus,dousing the
manifold with cool water and supercooling it. Cars without their Splash
Guards are more vulnerable.
Ok everybody,do you know the condition of your Splash Guards??

'75 Imp 4dr <--Splash Guards intact.
'79 440 powered 35 ft RV <--no Splash Guards. Very visible manifolds that
are VERY warped and leaking.

Otis, I think you have it. This is EXACTLY what I
hear. Today, I pulled the valve cover and could NOT
find the problem so pretty much isolated it to the
manifold. Now if I can only pull it without pulling
the engine.... Ain't much room in a 73, especially on
the left side. The good news is that I think I have a
spare.
