re issues of the originals are rare on the "pedestrian" cars...name a high interest imperial???!!! if its a muscle car...or special interest..then a posibility...the edsel was only done after 20 years of harassment by we model builders...all those years...in the model magazine surveys...a new edsel model was always at the top of the list...and finally it happened ;but it didnt lower the original value...it only gave the destroyers of the original boxed kits something cheaper to build...im glad......if imperials come out...(1 in 1,000,000,000) they will be redetailed and not recastings of the old molds...very few of the original molds are left ...a few years ago revell began reissuing its series of the 50s kits in larger reproduction boxes...at a national meet i asked them what the next reissues would be ...and the rep said that all had been done...the rest were destroyed or in too bad a shape to use, or the kit wasnt interesting enough....the main one of the group that was triple reissued was the lincoln futura..(base of the batmobile...which incidentally used a edsel steering wheel ring).the futura...a pure show car...a perfect choice for reissue.....there are between 500 to 700 new issues of model kits world wide each year...most of them have a rough time making a profit....if a corp invests 1 mil to do the tooling and packaging...they need to sell ...ie..5 mil kits to break even....imperials, although we like them, may top out at only 20,000 kits sold...not enough to produce any versions...even the 62 revell ...2 years ago was the peak of repros...its now faded to a memory....im 52,, and our age group that bought those repros are moving on...we bought the copies....and our general nostalgia needs are sated....the only imperials to come out...will probably be resins...for some time to come...im not worried about my inventory...i only paid 50 cents to 2.00 for each...highly unlikely their value will ever equal current enron stock!!!!!
