my $0.02 on radiators

I recently had the radiator on my '67 recorred. Of
course, this was an "unplanned" bit of maintenance.
(read: AAA had to come get me and my
peeing-green-stuff-'67)

Initially I called 1-800-radiators, as they had been
very helpful in the past with getting my antedeluvian
autos radiators. However, they did not have a '67
radiator, only the '68. I ordered it, but the two are
evitentally NOT interchangeable. So back it went.

Next try: recorring. Turns out the Imperial uses a
proprietary core, also used (interstingly enough) on
motorhomes. Oh, yeah, and by the way it was almost
twice as much! The entire job (which entailed
cleaning, leak testing, and repainting the tanks and
attaching them to the new core) totalled up to the
princely sum of $450US. Certainly not cheap!

Just a couple of words of caution, #1) make sure the
radiator shop knows to use the 27" core, the largest
one, and #2) make sure they put the tanks on the right
way. Excitedly I took my recore home the first time
only to be crestfallen upon noticing the tanks were backwards!
