Hi Kevin there are two types of compression test they are wet and dry here is what it will tell you one your vales are bad the other is that your ringe are bad here is how to dothis First you take a dry compression test keep the reading of each cylinder Next you do a wet test to do thie you will need a smal can that you can pump oil out of and in to your cylinder keeping each reading.what this will show is if your rings are bad or your valves are bad. Lets say you dry readings were left side 75,85,80,83 right side60,65.80,85 Now lets say your wet readings left side 75,95,95.95 right side 60 65,80,85 Your first cyl on left side is a valve leaking. Your hole right side have bad compressions springs but your oil rings are good because you said that it dose burn oil. I hpoe this wil help you under stand your eng better 62 Imp bob cronin >From: "Kevin Pacheco" <kevin50187@xxxxxxxxxxx> >Reply-To: mailing-list@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx >To: mailing-list@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx >Subject: Re: IML: need advice on engine re-build >Date: Fri, 08 Mar 2002 13:53:22 -0700 > >Thanks for all the help, If i was to do the compression test myself, how >do >i go about it? is this a common thing for shopes to work on? >Also how do i check, or know if my engin if off timming? >My engin is really hesitant, weak, and sounds like its running on water.
