I have been told that the reason '64 through '66 Imperials have corrosion in the panel between the rear window and the trunk lid is due to a design problem with the trunk light switch.

After I got everything back together and started the car, I noticed some sparks and a glow just to the side of the carburetor -- NOT a good thing!
Turns out the previous owner had removed the body ground strap, so the car was grounding through, of all things, the cruise control cable.
Luckily I shut off everything before any major damage was done. I had a good laugh about it afterwards. Never expected that one!
