RE: IML: cooling system pressure?

My 67 Crown has a Tefba filter installed in the upper radiator hose to
filter all debris from getting into the radiator. My 68 has the Gano filter
for the same purpose. I prefer the design of the Tefba filter but the
company was either sold or moved their operations to Australia. Here is a
web site with information on ordering from Australia.

http://www.mako.com.au/auto/tefba.htm

There used to be a U.S. distributor in Texas for these but has stopped
because the people in the Australian office were, shall we say, less than
desirable to deal with. Another member from our local Imperial club made
efforts to deal with the Australian company will less than favorable
results. I've not dealt with them personally. All my information is from
others.

This web site is for the Jag owners but is has a pretty detailed explanation
of how the filters work as well as the contact information for the Gano
filter company in California.

When I called the Gano filter company (Gano filter is on my 68 LeBaron) they
were pleasant and easy to work with. Not current with user friendly
technology though. (no web site, no credit cards) The policy for them is:
You call them and order a filter, sent them a check, they send you a filter.
Mine cost $33 (that includes the shipping). The Tefba filter is twice that
amount, plus shipping from Australia.

If you want to see the two different filters installed on my cars you can go
to my personal web site at http://langfamily.net2go.com and click on the
icon labeled 'coolant filters', then look at the pictures.

OK, thanks for everyone's input on the water jacket pressure question.

I think Dave's experience with head gasket failure with water pressure at
30-40 psi will make me pull the thermostat and run the water through with
the system "open". Following a good flushing, I will probably throw in an
old radiator and do the "Cascade" cleaning.

I do like the filter idea. Ken, will you share your info with the list
regarding a source?

Thanks again everyone for your help. I'll be back with more questions.
