Oh, the efi 80's were pretty feeble. You could add the o/d and just drive around in the lower 3 gears and you'd be okay, but you have to step up the rear gear to use 4th. I have a 2.94 in the 360 car and I'm trying to calculate what I should step up to if/when I go with the o/d, particulary with the '82 which is strictly a (feeble;) daily driven mpg car.
The only reason I got so testy is it's way easier to o/d an 80's Imp than any big block Imperial. The tranverse torsion bars mean that moving the tranny mount back is not as big of a deal and the 500/518 bolt right up. Basically you're just banging up the tunnel not dealing with structural issues and bellhousing swaps.

And compared to my 89 Diplomat police pkg, 318 4bbl hp,998, non lock-up 2.71 1st gear, and 3.21 gear, well there was no comparing.I made a shot-gun statement, assuming you used the original configuration. And continue to stand by it. No question, a better rear ratio,3.21- 3.55-3.91, the bigger engine, and the 518 would be an AWESOME package. For me, I'm building a 444 B motor, I've always preferred big blocks, so my feeble 318 goes.Ya'll have a nice day, Dave.
