Keep in mind that WD40 is not a lubricant. It displaces moisture (the WD stands for Water Displacment) and can penetrate some corrosion and loosen up gummed up parts, but its lubricating quality disappears quickly. You should follow up with a proper lubricant afterwards to keep the lock mechanism operating smoothly once you get to that point.
