RE: IML: Car Lift

I chose a 2 post lift because I wanted the additional ability to do mechanical work. While a 4 post allows you to do just about everything with the addition of jack trays and jacks, a pro transmission mechanic who has both kinds told me that he is constantly knocking his elbows, "funny" bones, etc, on the ramps of the 4 post kind, trying to wind his arms around them to get to stuff, etc when pulling a transmission or similar work, while the primary thing to worry about with the 2 post is banging his head, and he put rubber bumpers on the arms to soften that. I would say the big advantage of 4 post is the ease of or no installation, and possibility to move it around if needed. The 2 post is also cheaper for the same capacity/brand.

Hi Everyone;

My building is finally done. I am now looking at lifts. I have of course Imperials and a few Metropolitans. My question to those that have them. What lift is preferred the 4 post or 2 post lifts.
