Title: Re: IML: Jay Leno Mentions Imperial
Please, let’s not even go down this path! One could argue that it’s a dressed up Reliant and not be totally inaccurate. The Imperial was a lengthened version of the New Yorker, which was itself a lengthened body derived from the K-car, which came first. They have many shared parts and some unique parts. The Imperial was introduced last and very little engineering for this general family of models (other than to manufacture different-looking parts, etc.) was devoted exclusively to the Imperial. They are nicely trimmed, plush-riding, super-comfy cars and a remarkably good result of a very small budget. It’s probably best to avoid any chicken-or-egg debate.
There is probably a much higher percentage of unique, specifically engineered parts in a ’67-68 Imperial compared to a same-year Chrysler (or a ’65-68 Chrysler, I should say), but that doesn’t mean a ’90-93 isn’t a real Imperial.
And with all due respect to your Dart (I have one too), it’s not an Imperial. But there’s nothing wrong with it being what it is, which is why there are numerous websites and forums devoted to the enduring, beloved and brilliantly engineered Dart as well.
There, my $0.02.
