Re: IML: So much for 1980's Imps being in the price doldrums:

Pretty surprising that this car is up to 15K & still not hit the reserve. I would think that those offering that much are very miss informed about these cars, or some shill bidding taking place. Knowing the problems that lie ahead, I wouldn't pay that much. Look at the prices the other 80's are selling for. You could get 3 really nice ones for what this seller hopes to get for one. If I were going to spend that much I would bid on the 60 convertible with a buy now price of 24K.

Wonder why he thinks it is the last Imperial off the line?

They actually built 1,555 Imperials for the 1983 model year. The figure he
quotes is the number used in many publications but it is actually the number
of 1983 Imperials built for the U.S. market.

The interesting thing about this car is the sequential production number -
186518. It is actually too low for April but does fit into February
(171013 to 188641). Wonder why the car's assembly was delayed?

I own a 1983 Imperial built on January 19, 1983, with a spn of 167961, which
is correct for January (153728 to 171012).

The biggest problem with my car is the paint on the roof - it is lifting off
the metal. It started out as a crack in the paint two years before I bought
it and has since progressed from the rear window to the front and has
branched out. The paint and all the layers right down to the bare metal
lift off. I am cleaning, priming and painting the areas as they bare to
protect the roof metal. Cannot afford a complete paint job right now. And
given the way the paint is lifting, I suspect the whole roof should be
stripped to the metal and redone.

Will be interesting to see if the black 1983 Imperial gets to the reserve
amount.
