Re: IML: Fuel problems continue.. On 66 Imp >Any great mechanics outthere??

Actually ,Bob, the gas tank came from a listed supplier and yes its used and out of an Imperial.. Im not certain what the Woodsmen did (they sure charged me enough) with the tank if they cleaned it> but Im assuming they left the old gas sending unit in it since it doesn work.  Does anyone know who sells sending units..? I cannot leave it at repair shop for 8 days while they rebuild mine, its NYC you know.

Since the gas tank was replaced, and if I remember correctly it was replaced with a non-Imperial tank (Came out of another Chrysler product?).  Did the ?woodland? mechanic transfer your sender to the replacement tank, or use the sender that came with the replacement tank?  What I?m thinking is that either the pickup tube isn?t resting on the bottom of the tank, and when you are going uphill it?s above the fuel level, and/or the float is inaccurate and there is much less fuel in the tank than you might think.

Since she continues to act up after leveling off, you might have some junk in the tank that is floating, and makes it?s way to the pickup on that steep hill climb.  Any idea what kind of shape the replacement tank was in when you got it?  It may not have been much better than the one in the woods.

Ok heres the history .. bought a car from club member that hadnt been used in tens years.  Got a rebuilt carb on it and had to get a used gas tank original was leaking( the mechanic threw the other in the woods? Where's the EPA) .. I drove it one hour back to Ny in a horrible rain storm, remember? No trouble. Then I had my local mechanic who knows and has old cars work on it.  Now its been in and out of the shop three times.. as it dies out (starves for gas ?) going up a steep hill. This last time it wouldn't start again >no gas coming thru. We have blown out the lines, new fuel cap, got a new fuel pump, adjusted rebuilt carb, worked on the choke.. changed fuel filter.  Im not sure what else to do.. This week Im having the tank cleaned out and lines reblown and look inside carb.. Any great wisdom here.. I love driving her when shes not acting up.

So when I drove her on flat land.. she was fine. As soon as I tried to go up a steep Hill disaster then she acts up even if land is level.. Help, Help...
