IML: Imperials and other silly passtimes. Was: Selling my '66 Crown Coupe

Yep, that just about covers it. Most hobbies are expensive and, if
examined rationally, make no sense at all. Take fishing. You buy a boat
and a motor and insurance or you just drive to some old riverbank and stand
there getting bitten by flies and then, when you do catch something, you
throw it back. But it's fun, right? Like buying a car for $1,000.00,
investing countless hours and enough cash for a whole year at a pretty good
school into fixing up the engine, the transmission, the interior, the
exterior and, having at the end of it all, if you own an Imperial, a car
that hardly anyone recognizes, won't win at a car show because it ain't a 57
Chevy and is not worth much more than the initial price you paid for it.
As my mother loved to quote, "It's foolish but it's fun."
Hugh, San Antonio
The idle thoughts of an idle fellow, but, hey, the Spurs won yesterday and
somehow life's possibilities just seem a little brighter today.

Dear Chris:
I just wanted to assure you that it is normal to live paycheck to
paycheck to support the cars you own. Furthermore, if you restore a
car, sell it, and lose money, this is also normal. If you actually make
money on the deal, you are doing something wrong. At least, this is the
experience that I have had over the last 30 years, some of that with my
5 Imperials, and some with other marques. Don't feel bad, it sounds
like you are doing everything right!
Best Wishes,
Brandy Elitch
