RE: IML: car starts when it wants

I'd lean towards the starte toor. A fairly common Mopar problem. You can ask for a Dakota starter-V6 or V8. Problem is they'll charge you a core charge and I doubt they'll accept your "regular" starter in return. You can also get a junkyard unit ($25-50) and cheap rebuild kit-contacts are supposedly the only things that go bad ($2). What I did was buy a Mancini Mopar starter. It was around $125 and has instructions to make it fit on a big block (I put it on a small block). I have heard that some versions require grinding to fit flush. Not a big deal, but not something I'd want to do on a brand new starter. I think the deal is the new mini-starter is more mini than the older one, so it fits on big blocks more easily. You could also get a regular starter, it's cheaper and fits, but it's more annoying to have smashing your fingers when you're trying to snake it between the exhaust and steering components.

I thought it was worse with heat, no its just worse as the days go by. I am showing 12.81v on the battery AFTER I tried for 2-3 seconds to start it, nowhere near the correct rpm (dragged to a stop almost). The battery was showing 14.60v when the car was running the other day.
Got to be the starter Right???
This mini starter, I can just ask for a starter for a 19?? Dakota.
