Actually, if you look in the "By Imperial Decree" sales brochure for 1959
(if you don't have one, you can view this on the website), you will see on the
back cover there is a picture of the swivel seat feature with a paragraph about
them, and the swivel seat is listed as a "new optional feature." However,
I had looked at a number of 1959s before my husband and I settled on the one
that we bought, and all of them had this feature. Since it was a new
option, it would appear that the general public liked that option a lot, and
many people had it put in their cars. I don't remember a lot of other
makes of cars having this feature until the early 60s (63 or 64, I think)
when the T-Birds came out with swivel seats and tilt-away steering column.
So, I think that it was a pretty unique feature that appealed to a lot of
people. I know that personally, I still think that is a very cool feature
about these cars that seemed to be way ahead of their time.
