RE: IML: Shock Absorbers for 1948 Crown Imperial

The auto parts places have a “buyer’s guide” for shock absorbers. They list the shock absorbers by length of stroke and by mounting provision. I have always found a close enough match to fit any of my cars, and I have some really weird stuff around here. What you need to do is to take in an example of what you are looking for, and your vernier calipers; then find a cooperative clerk, preferably one with gray hair and not too busy, and get him to show you how to go through the book.

I don’t know if you have the “Big A” chain in your area, but I’ve used their buyer’s guide for this purpose. I assume the other chains have them too.

If you try to find parts like this by application, they will laugh at you when you say 1948 anything!

I've found a lot of parts through NAPA! However, they can't go back that far for shock absorbers.

Does anyone know what will work on a Crown Imperial for all 4 wheels? I figure that as long as she has all new booties I might as well put shock on it. I think the "booties" would wear a lot better. I've also searched eBay with no results.

I am also looking for the battery strap and bolt that hold the battery in place. They call it a strap but it's metal and outlines the battery and has long screws with a hook at the end to hold it in place.
