You should get a Halon, or other "gas" type extinguisher to keep in the car. This is the type they use for putting out engine fires on boats. There is no powder so therefore no damage. It's not poisonouse, and if you you get an electrical fire you usualy can kill it dead in it's tracks before the car cooks. The gas is VERY cold when it comes out too :) I used to have a smoke problem inside my 68, it turned out to be a small crack in the dipstick tube that caused a very small ammount of oil to drip on the exhaust, and for some reason it came though a couple of pooly sealed grommets in the firewall. It was not severe but very annoying. Just be carefull.
