Note that the plain single grade oils now sold by reputable vendors (Chevron, NAPA etc.) have the same SAE ratings as the multigrade oils - that is what the SAE classifications are for. If you use SJ rated oil, regardless of what grade, you are going to get the best additives that are available from modern chemistry. The viscosity additive argument is an independent subject.
