IML: Radio-cassette plug on the back?

I've just got an Apple iPod and would like to use it in my Imperial 93. I
originally replaced the standard radio-cassette with a radio-CD player.
However, in my quest to hook my iPod, I did examine my radio-cassette and
found out what looks like a DIN-8 port on the back.

Does anybody know what that port might be used for? This is not the regular
connectors that let you plug the electric wire or the speaker. It's a round
female connector that is about half an inch in diameter, has 8 connectors (7
around plus one in the middle). There are no sticker on the radio that might
explain what it is.

Anybody knows?

Thanks in advance!

-Laurent.
