My Imperial is possessed!!

Good suggestion John, - I did not think of that.
Along the same lines, - NEVER work on windshield wiper linkage without
disconnecting the battery. There's probably more than one mechanic out
there with a missing finger who will agree with me.
And watch out for power window regulators too, - 'course they are not
"energized" unless you have the key on, - unlike wiper linkage (there is
always "juice" to the wipers if they have not "parked" yet).

DaveG.

I would suggest disconnecting the battery before putting any hands under the
seat. You may end up getting pinned under there or worse if the seat moves
suddenly.

Maybe someone "leaned" on the switch on the way in or out of the backseat?
I have had a couple of 81s, and although they both did some "weird"
things, - the seats moving by themselves was not one of them.......

And you're probably right, - it is likely to drain your battery. You
might
be able to reach under the seat and unplug the wiring to the motor, - but
it
might be a little "tight" to get your hand in there.

  > Ok guys this is weird...so I'm driving my 1983 Imperial down the
highway,
minding my own business, when all of a sudden my power passengers side
seat
starts to move forward ALL BY ITSELF!?!? It was unbelievable seeing it,
somehow it self-activated itself and is now permanently as far forward as
it
can go....so what could have possibly caused this to happen??? BTW it
looks
like it's draining my battery now with it being permanently activated in
the
"move forward" position. Thanks.Joel SmithEdmonton, Alberta
