No car is safer than the person behind the wheel. Without proper maintenance, even the most modern machine can become a road hazard. That said, if you think the car isn't safe, then you shouldn't drive it. When I am with my friends, I do not discuss the safety of my car. As long as I do what I must to keep it up, I don't believe that it is any of their business. If I commit a slip of the tongue, such as "it is time for me to look for tires", I risk them bringing that up in a court hearing should I have an unfortunate accident. Maintain your car, and drive it safely. If you are worried about its safety, or what others think, leave it in the garage and admire it as a work of art. You don't have to drive your Imperial to enjoy it.
