Well, I personally didn't know any of this until I got back from seeing the
car. I read up on it because the license plate said 1952NYC, but the car was
obviously a 1956. The car had a safety only inspection sticker, but no
registration, which in NY would have shown the year of manufacture. It
turns out that, as Paul stated, it was restyled in 1956. The New York car is
still the New York car. They never had to find it, I've been seeing it off
and on, whenever the Yanks win the series or something. Every 2 or 3 years.
;) The LA car is still the LA car. The Detroit car was supposed to be given
to the White House, but there are rules about accepting gifts, so it was
given to Detroit and loaned out to DC as needed. The third car is, contrary
to rumor, still kicking around and was apparently sold out of Vegas within
the last 5 years or so. Thanks to the webmonsters I learned all about these
cars (5 or 6 articles, pictures and updates) without ever leaving our very
own site.
