Oil Pressure Problem

Dan- If your car is a 440 you are probably having a lifter get hung up in the lifter bore. When this happens the cam boots the lifter up and it stays there for awhile. When it's up there it takes away the restriction in the oil passage so the oil flows freely. This results in loss of oil pressure which takes away all the oil from the bottom end (crank bearings). When you leave it set for a while, the lifter goes back down to meet the cam, noise goes away and oil pressure returns. Don't drive it. It's not too bad to fix if you don't have to hone or sleeve the lifter bores. Take out the lifters, it will be obvious which one is hanging up and might just be a ding in the lifter it's self. A new set of lifters are cheap but if you have to sleeve the bore-- get ready to spend some money. Good luck.
