2-SPEED POWER FLITE TRANNY SWAP

QUESTION FOR THE WISE IMPERIALIST.  I HAD PURCHASED A 2 SPEED POWER FLITE FROM A NEW FRIEND OF MINE THINKING I COULD JUST SWAP IT OUT AND I COULD BE ROLLING AGAIN. THE TRANSMISSION HE SOLD ME IS THE SAME TRANNY EXCEPT FOR THE REAR 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
