Lincoln "Imperial"

Absolutely a strong "family resemblance" Hugh. I have a wonderful book of archival photos of the Imperial from '64 thru '68.  When I look at the '65 Imperial side by side against the '65 Lincoln, one can easily discern which "sibling" received the better looks.  Had an oppurtunity to purchase a '65 Lincoln conv. right here at home.  It needed about as much work as the Imperial and they were about the same price.  I ended up buying the Imperial because I felt in the long run I would have such a uniquely styled and powerful automobile.  Elwood Engel and his designers did a great job on the '61 Lincoln and he did an equally superb job with the '64 Imperial.  Very "Lincolnesque" but different enough to be recognized (by some anyway) as an IMPERIAL.  Glad I own my '65!

We have a 63 Lincoln.  I think you'd have to admit a strong "family" resemblance.  Same designer and all.

Before our '65 Crown convertible went to the restoration shop to begin the lengthy frame-off she is undergoing, I did drive her some.  Once when I came by my house for a "pit stop" and to get a cold drink a fellow stopped and asked what year Lincoln I had.  He was looking at the trunk when he asked the question and happened to see the letters I-M-P-E-R-I-A-L around the hump in the trunk.  I said, "It's an Imperial" to which he replied, "I didn't know Lincoln had a model named Imperial!!!!  I kid you not!  I suppose the spare tire bulge in the deck lid "proved" to him that is was indeed a Lincoln regardless of what I said.  Go figure!
