What a shame, turning brand new rotors. All he had to do is sand them down. Or even leave them alone and let the pads clean up the rust. Yes, I do not think the 68 manual mentions anything about turning the rotors. I guess disk brakes were new for the US back then, and service procedures were not established. So, may be the guys writing the manual did not realize how important it would have been to point this out. Your rotor that has been turned a bit is probably useable. I have used rotors much thinner than what they should be, and held up well in spite of my spirited driving.
