HI all... When it comes to rebuilding a tflite, make sure you have some room. I highly recommend having a long table, and then you can lay it out like an exploded view. After doing numerous automatic trans, and theyre not really hard to do, its is imperative you have all the subassemblies laid out correctly for their respective parts. It sounds silly I know, and those fsm and other manuals cover it pretty well....but when you cant find the thrust washer because it fell off the counter, or which way the wave spring goes....youll be happier. I prefer the trans-go kits, for the valve body work anyway. They have very concise directions and they go into the theory as well as the practical. And if you dont have special tool C-3888 or whatever, they tell you real world ways to get there from here. As far as band adjustments, one is on the side of the case, kinda hard to get to, above the shift and kickdown lever, the other is inside, you have to take the pan off. The bands are adjusted by loosening the locknuts, snugging down the adjuster nut, then backing it off a certain amount. Usually its measured with an inch pound torque wrench, tighten to a point, back off a set number of turns, and tighten the locknut. Its really not a big deal to do, but one should be familiar with WHAT is being changed when you adjust them. Please remember this though, all the tricks and neat stuff in the world WONT help if you have excessive clearances, a pump with low output, leaky clutch pack seals, worn out clutch material....but the tflite is one of the better built and most robust transmissions around. If its got other problems, you probably know it already....cuz it either dont move or wont shift. Id suggest checking around online, there are some excellent reference sites in addition to what the fsm can teach you. Just my 3 cents on these....have fun, get yer wrenches out and get oily!
