Yes, you are seeing the gauge sentry system in action. If any of the 4
gauges is out of normal safe operating range, the gauge sentry light will
warn you to look at the gauges. This is a standard feature of Imperials for
many years - really the best of all worlds, an idiot light and a gauge to
give you quantitative data. If the fuel is below 1/8 tank, the light will
warn you.
