58: Of Bicycles & Imperials

Hugh,

Get a bicycle with quick release brakes and hubs. With these you just flick
a lever and the brake blocks pull away from the rim. Same idea with the
quick release hub. With these two items, the front wheel can easily be
removed and the bicycle should fit in the trunk of your Imperial.

I have a Sekine 10-speed (27" frame) with both quick release brakes and
hubs, and it fit no problem in the trunks of my 1972 Dodge Polara and 1978
Dodge Monaco. I can even get it into the trunk of my 1965 Valiant! I have
not tried it yet, but it should fit into my 1983 Imperial as well. So this
type of bicycle should easily fit into your Imperial's trunk.

Not only do bike racks look ungainly on any car, they are also open
invitation to thieves. With your bicycle(s) safely in the trunk, you can
park your car anywhere and not have to worry about them being taken.
