If memory serves me, I believe the 74 newport has the later style rearend, (non 8.75 inch ring-gear ) if so,the axle shafts will NOT interchange with the older style shafts,you need a set of axles (or an entire rear end) out of a 73 or earlier C-body,an easy way to tell the difference is,looking from the rear of the car,there should be no bolt on cover, just a smooth,rounded housing,also if only swaping the axle shafts, be sure to grab the brake drums as well...
