Jason's Engine Problem

Jason;
 Until you find out the cause of that knock, DO NOT RUN THAT ENGINE. If the
knocking only just started there is a chance that very little damage was
done if you only ran it briefly. Are you absolutely sure that the noise
came from the valve train and not the crank case? If it's from the valve
train you may only have a sticky lifter. If it's from the crank case you
have a bad con rod bearing which, if no damage was done to the jounals, may
only amount to replace the set. If some damage was done to the journals you
will need to have that crankshaft reground to the next undersize.
 In any scenario you will need to open up that engine to investigate and
solve the problem. If it's any consulation the oil additive only brought a
problem to the forefront that was probably due to occur at some point
anyhow. I don't know how old your car is but if it is more then thirty years
old I think that if you need to tear it down I would have the block dipped
and the passages cleaned out while you are at it.
