The black wire in question does go to the lighting. But the wire is now soldered to the rewind coil tab. Do you think it should be soldered to the power connection and the coil tab should be soldered to the small wire sticking out of the coil? I have a '62 and a '63, but I can't remember the wiring configuration for the clock. I believe that there is a metal tab that the power lead from inside the dash would connect to.
